SEATTLE, WA — The man accused of shooting and killing a Bothell police officer and putting two other people in the hospital will be held without bail, at least until charges are filed.

The man, identified by prosecutors as 37-year-old Henry Eugene Washington, is accused of leading police on a pursuit and shooting two officers, including officer Jonathan Shoop, who died in the incident.

According to police, around 9:40 Monday night, the officers had tried to pull over Washington on SR 522 because his car did not have a license plate. Instead of stopping, he sped off. Eventually, the driver hit a pedestrian riding a scooter in the intersection, losing control and plowing his car through the center median in the 10300 block of Woodinville Drive.

According to court documents from the King County Prosecutor's Office, a nearby witness recorded video of what happened next. The footage reportedly shows the driver getting out of his car, walking up to the police cruiser and opening fire on the officers as they sit inside their vehicle. One of the officers then returns fire. Another eyewitness told police that the man could be heard repeatedly yelling "come on pig" as he fired at the police.

The shooter then left the scene but, according to court documents, called police in Junction City, Kansas, and confessed to shooting the officers. Police say, in that call, the shooter identified himself as Henry Eugene Washington, said that he had run someone over and that he had shot a police officer in the head in self-defense.

Officers responding to the scene found Shoop dead with a gunshot wound to his head. The second officer had been grazed in the head as well and was briefly hospitalized for treatment but released early the next day. The 20-year-old pedestrian was also hospitalized. Court documents show he suffered a broken femur, among other injures, but is expected to recover.

After several hours of searching police arrested Washington atop a nearby building around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. Wednesday, Washington's case was first taken to court, where a judge found probably cause to hold him on investigation of murder, first-degree, assault, vehicular assault, and attempting to elude. Prosecutors say they expect Washington to be charged on Friday. Until then, he is being held without bail.
