Rat City Roller Derby's Shoreline Home Set To Be Demolished
The Rat's Nest, home of the Rat City Roller Derby, was sold to a developer last year. It's set to be demolished in May.
SHORELINE, WA - The Rat's Nest, home of Rat City Roller Derby, will soon be demolished to make way for a new apartment building. The league is looking for a new home, ideally before it has to leave their warehouse off Aurora Avenue in Shoreline this spring.
All four teams in Rat City Roller Derby use the Shoreline base for practice and for bouts. But it's also home to youth league derby, the Seattle Derby Brats, and the men's league Puget Sound Outcasts.
The Rat's Nest will be demolished beginning in late May to make way for a 240-unit apartment building. The organization is trying to raise money for moving expenses, but it's also looking for tips to find vacant space in the area for a new Rat's Nest.

This Saturday, the league will host a goodbye party for the Shoreline location. You can skate until midnight, and enjoy a beer garden and food trucks. The event follows several bouts between local child and adult teams.
The organization (formerly known as Rat City Rollergirls) got it's start in 2004 at White Center's Southgate Roller Rink (White Center is known as RAT City because of the old Army Relocation and Training Center there). The league grew into one of the best in the world, and into an extremely popular local draw, selling out the lower bowl of KeyArena or the ShoWare Center in Kent.
