Relax with a Book: Shoreline-LFP Summer Reading Program

Thinking about your summer reading list? Keep it local with the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park summer reading program, which kicks off its ninth summer season with a witty book set in Seattle, Where’d You Go, Bernadette: a novel  by Maria Semple.

In Where’d You Go, Bernadette, Semple expertly skewers Seattle’s newly rich and our local culture.  When her notorious, volatile, troubled genius mother goes missing from their Queen Anne home, teenage Bee tries to solve her disappearance through emails, letters, and documents she’s found. 

Along the way, the reader meets the pretentious parents at Bee’s elite private school, Bee’s dad Elgin, a high-tech wizard who’s adored by his fawning staff, and Bernadette, once a promising architect, who has become a recluse and can’t abide Seattle life.  When events come to a crisis, she flees, and leading to a wild, comical chase to the ends of the earth to find her.

The book is on sale at Third Place Books for 20% off from June 1 through August 31. 

Events in the program, sponsored by the City of Lake Forest Park’s Library Advisory Committee, the City of Shoreline Library Advisory Board, Friends of the Shoreline, Richmond Beach, and LFP Libraries, Friends of Third Place Commons, and Third Place Books, will take place at Shoreline and Richmond Beach libraries, and culminate in a book discussion group featuring the author at Third Place Books on July 29.
