Reminder: King County Primary Ballots Due Tuesday

The King County Parks Levy, County Council District 1 seat and two Ronald Wastewater District seats are before voters in Shoreline and Lake Forest Park.

Voters in Shoreline and Lake Forest Park will help determine the fate of a King County parks levy intended to replace two expiring 2007 levy lid lifts.

The proposed six-year lid lift on Tuesday's primary ballot amounts to 18 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value, 8 cents more than the previous two levies of 5 cents each. If it passes, the new levy would result in an increase of by $26.31 for a home valued at $300,000.

The Lake Forest Park City Council recently approved a resolution in support of the levy.

How do you plan to vote on the parks levy? Tell us in the comments section.

Funds from the levy would be used to maintain the county's parks and trails and to expand the regional trail system. (More info on the levy can be found here.)

The measure requires a simple majority to pass.

Also before Shoreline and Lake Forest Park voters:

•Two people are challenging King County Councilman Rod Dembowski in his bid to retain the District 1 seat. Dembowski was appointed to the council in February. Challenging him in the primary are John Fray and Naomi Wilson.

•Two commissioner seats with the Ronald Wastewater District are contested in the primary. Challenging Commissioner Arthur Wadekamper for Position 2 are business owner Ginny Scantlebury and retired travel agency owner Gretchen Atkinson. And challenging Commissioner Richard Matthews for Position 4 are Shoreline Schools public information officer Craig Degginger and engineering consultant George R. Webster.

•County voters will select two candidates for the general election in the race for King County executive. Information on each of the four candidates, including current Executive Dow Constantine, can be found here.

Ballots must be postmarked by Tuesday, Aug. 6, or returned to a designated drop box by 8 p.m. that day.
