Shoreline and LFP Would Be In McDermott's 7th Congressional District Under New Plan
Redistricting plan carves up 1st District, now held by departing Jay Inslee, into a toss up between Republicans and Democrats
The Washington State Redistricting Commission revealed 10 newly drawn Congressional districts in a draft congressional plan released today.
Republican redistricting commissioner Slade Gorton and Democratic commissioner Tim Ceis, both of King County, developed the plan. Their proposal creates five strong Democratic districts and four strong Republican districts and one toss up, the 1st District, which Jay Inslee is leaving.
According to the Tacoma News-Tribune, the plan also answers hopes they would create the state’s first district in which racial minorities held the majority of votes, and it turns departing Congressman Jay Inslee’s 1st district into a toss-up that ranges from northeast King County north to include the rural portions of Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom counties,Â

Heavily democratic Shoreline and Lake Forest Park would be in the 7th Congressional District represented by Jim McDermott (D-Seattle).
Gorton said the new 1st may be the most evenly divided district in the nation, according to the News Tribune, and Ceis said the new map is a fair and equitable balance across the state. The draft plan needs one other vote in support from either Democrat Dean Foster of Olympia or Republican Tom Huff.

Foster and Huff are still working to complete a 49-district legislative plan for consideration by Gorton and Ceis.
