Shoreline Residents: Can You Take 1 Million Steps In September?
The Shoreline Million Step Challenge starts in September. Locals will be able to represent their neighborhood in the citywide fitness event.
SHORELINE, WA — The city's annual Million Step Challenge begins on Sept. 3, challenging residents to boost fitness goals and even compete for prizes against other neighborhoods. This year, the city is organizing several group walks to help neighbors meet each other — and get some excercise.
Here's more from a city of Shoreline press release:
The Million Step Challenge is a free month-long event that invites people of all ages and abilities to walk as much as they can during the month of September in the name of health, fitness, and friendly competition. Participants compete against each other for prizes, as well as, competing for their Shoreline neighborhood. At the end of the challenge, awards will be given to top steppers and a trophy will be presented to the neighborhood that walked the most.

The event started in 2014 in the Ridgecrest neighborhood. It has now expanded to include the entire city. New for 2019, the Million Step Challenge has added a series of group walks on Monday evenings at Paramount School Park to allow participants a chance to get to know one other while logging their steps for the challenge.
Continuing for 2019, the City will track how many total steps each of Shoreline’s 14 neighborhoods have walked and award a trophy to the winning neighborhood. The Ridgecrest neighborhood will be defending their title for 2019.
