Take The Seattle Independent Bookstore Day 'Passport Challenge'
Seattle Independent Bookstore day happens Saturday at stores from Edmonds to Redmond to Burien.
LAKE FOREST PARK, WA — Worldwide Independent Bookstore Day happens Saturday, but in Puget Sound, the day has a local twist.
The Seattle Independent Bookstore Day — although the event is Puget Sound-wide — features a "passport challenge" that allows book lovers to earn discounts and accolades for visiting local stores. Visit three and you get a 30 percent off discount, but if you go the extra mile and visit all 21 stores on the list, you'll be named a "grand champion."
"If you've visited three or more stores, in return you'll get a 30 percent coupon, good for a one-time use at any participating store. If your passport has stamps from all 21 stores, we'll invite you to our Grand Champions party and get you your Grand Champion Card, good for a 25 percent discount at all participating stores for the following year," the event organizers say.

And if you make "grand champion" status, you'll be in good company. There were 320 grand champions in 2017, and 500 in 2018. Organizers are hoping to break that record this year.
All you have to do is pick up a passport map at any participating store. You get a stamp from each store you visit. You only have to visit one location if a store has multiple locations.
