Driver Collides With Teen Riding Bike On Shoreline Sidewalk
The 16-year-old was hit while riding along Northeast 175th Street around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
SHORELINE, WA — A driver collided with a 16-year-old bicyclist Tuesday morning as he rode his bike along a Northeast 175th Street sidewalk. The driver was using a parking lot to beat a red light and cut across the sidewalk in front of the teen, according to police.
The incident happened around 7:30 a.m. near 15th Avenue Northeast. The teen's bike was pulled under the car, but the 16-year-old escaped with relatively minor injuries. He was taken to Harborview in stable condition for treatment of a broken arm and road rash, but he was alert and talking just after the collision.
The driver will be cited, but was not arrested. The teen was not wearing a helmet of the collision. Shoreline fire officials said the incident is a reminder to always wear a helmet — and that drivers should stay alert to avoid collisions.
