Tell Your Legislator to Say NO to the TPP (Major Corporate Grab) November Vote in Congress
Like NAFTA, TPP brings problems: -Jobs disappear -Corporations sue countries -Food and safety laws disappear -Environmental laws go
Tell your legislator to vote No when the PTP vote comes up in congress in November! It is a destructive trade agreement in favor of large corporations but not the people.
We know NAFTA's effects. Detroit is destroyed after jobs left. Like NAFTA, lawsuits can be brought against countries. Lengthy patents by drug companies don't allow generics to enter the market. U.S. corporations can force countries to buy our meat, even though our additive, ractopamine, is banned in 160 countries. Mexico's law for 1-9 years prison for GMO's harming the ecosystem will be ignored. 'Monsanto Law' will prevail under the TPP. And, probably the most significant to our future, environmental laws can be overturned or governments will not fight due to high lawsuit costs, as we've seen already.
Enforcement is missing from the TPP. Lengthy periods of time have been given for countries to come into compliance with provisions for worker and human rights, food safety laws, etc. If not more clear at the start, we all know these will drift into the gray area, due to corporate legalese and friendly corporate/regulatory agency relations.

Tell your legislator a decision as major as having to do with 40% of the world trade needs more constituent input. If he or she is saying they don't know enough yet to vote on it, obviously there has not been adequate debate and discussion. The relevant legislators to talk to in our area are Rep. DelBene and Senator Patty Murray.
