Washington Sears, Kmart Stores Will Close

Sears Holdings announced recently that it would close 108 Kmart and 42 Sears stores nationwide.

Sears Holdings will close one Sears location and one Kmart location in Washington, part of the retailer's plan to shut about 150 stores nationwide by mid-March to sure-up its finances.

Sears Holdings, the parent of both the retail chains, said in a press release that it would only close "non-profitable" stores. The 108 Kmart stores and 42 Sears stores slated to close generated $1.2 billion in sales over 2016, but the retailer still lost $60 million operating the stores, according to the company.

  • Sears, Lynnwood, 18600 Alderwood Mall Parkway
  • Kmart, Tacoma, 5132 6th Ave.

The employees at both of those locations were notified of the impending closures on Dec. 27. In 2014, Sears closed its store in Seattle's Sodo neighborhood, which was located inside the Starbucks headquarters building.

The Sears and Kmart closings come one day after Macy's announced it would close stores in Washington.
