14 WA Payless Shoe Stores May Close: See The Full List

SPOKANE, WA - The Payless ShoeSource discount footwear chain wants to close over 800 stores nationwide, and has targeted 14 Washington state stores for closure. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April, and had initially sought to close 408 stores. But now the company wants to close an additional 400 stores across the U.S.

Here are all the Washington state locations Payless wants to close:

• Issaquah - The Commons At Issaquah
• Puyallup - South Hill Plaza
• Seattle - Westwood Village Shopping Center
• Spokane - 9762 North Newport Highway
• Spokane - 2401 West Wellesley Ave.
• Poulsbo - College Market Place
• Kelso - Three Rivers Mall
• Marysville - Kmart Plaza
• Burlington - Cascade Mall
• Monrose - 14991 North Kelsey St.
• Lynnwood - Alderwood Mall
• Auburn - 1215 Auburn Way North
• Bellingham - Bellis Fair Mall
• Covington - 16929 Southeast 270th Place

Even with these closures, there will still be a considerable number of Payless locations in Washington state, including in south Seattle, Tukwila, Bellevue, Woodinville, Tacoma, and Bonney Lake. In Eastern Washington, there will still be three locations in the Spokane area, and one in Wenatchee.

Payless is based in Topeka, Kansas, and is seeking bankruptcy protection in federal court in Missouri. The company sought to add the 400 additional stores to the list because it was unable to renegotiate lower rents, according to reports. The chain, which was founded in 1956, operates over 4,000 locations nationwide.
