UNIVERSITY PLACE, WA — Despite the pandemic and many cancelled Fourth of July events, the show will go on at Cheney Stadium this Friday.

The Tacoma Rainiers have announced that they will still be putting on a fireworks display for their fans and community, but with one major hitch— fans won't be able to watch from inside the stadium.

"July 3 is traditionally the biggest day of the year for the Rainiers and our fans," said Rainiers president Aaron Artman. "There's decades of July 3 history at Cheney Stadium. It's a special day for our fans that has passed through generations."

Fireworks will be set off from the parking lot on Clay Huntington Way near Foss High School starting at 9:45 p.m. Friday. The show will be live-streamed to fans over the team's Facebook page, but fans can also try to watch from the distance from the surrounding neighborhoods. Those who do come down to check the show out are encouraged to continue practicing safe social distancing and to wear masks or facial coverings to protect public health.
