Vancouver Semi Driver Killed By Own Truck On I-5

The 64-year-old trucker was repairing his vehicle when it rolled and hit him, according to Washington State Patrol.

TACOMA, WA — A semi driver was killed Wednesday morning along I-5 in Tacoma after his own truck hit him, according to Washington State Patrol.

The semi driver was identified as Steven D. Harshman, 64, of Vancouver. According to police, Harshman had parked his truck along the northbound lanes of I-5 in Tacoma around 8 a.m. to make repairs.

An investigation into why is still ongoing, but police said the truck began to move and rolled Harshman over as he was working on the vehicle. He died at the scene, police said.

"Witnesses indicate that a semi truck was pulled to the right shoulder with the driver outside and appeared to be making repairs to the vehicle when it started moving again. The driver was sadly struck by the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries," WSP Trooper Johnna Batiste said on Twitter.
