TACOMA, WA — Western Washington is in for a dry and warm Labor Day weekend, building toward even higher temperatures expected in the week ahead, according to the latest forecasts. The National Weather Service said Seattle hit 80 degrees for the fourth consecutive day on Friday, a feat that has only happened a dozen times in September since 1945.

Saturday is expected to be a few degrees cooler, with some morning clouds possible, and afternoon highs in the low 70s to mid-80s. Sunday looks to be clear and dry with similar pleasant temperatures, ahead of a warming trend forecast to begin Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, the hottest days next week are likely to be Wednesday and Thursday when temperatures in the Seattle region climb toward 90 degrees.

California smoke plume should clear by Sunday

A plume of California wildfire smoke moving over the region is expected to continue through Saturday, according to the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency. Since Thursday, the smoke has stayed at high altitude in most areas, lending to spectacular sunsets and limited impacts to air quality on the ground.

The agency said some light ground-level smoke may move into the region through Saturday, degrading air quality to the moderate range in some areas. Right now, clean air is expected to return by Sunday. The latest updates on the air quality outlook can be found on the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency website.
