University Place Backpack Program Makes Sure Students Don't Go Home Hungry

The University Place School District backpack program makes sure students are sent home with food over the weekend, when other resources are not available.

Many know that hunger is affecting an increasing amount of people in University Place, but did you know that many students go home for the weekend and don't get another meal until Monday morning at school?

The University Place backpack program sends children home with food for the weekend, and is designed to meet the needs of hungry children at times when other resources are limited.

The program is run in conjunction with the Families Unlimited Network’s Food Bank.

Students are provided a backpack each week, providing healthy alternatives for breakfast and lunch for the weekend.

Please call the counselor at your child’s school for more information about the Backpack Program.  All UPSD schools participate in the program.
