University Place Burglary Suspect Arrested After Chase, Crash
Deputies said the man fled at high speeds after triggering an alarm at a liquor store.
UNIVERSITY PLACE, WA — A University Place burglary suspect was arrested near Fircrest Sunday morning after fleeing from investigators and rolling his car down an embankment, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department. Deputies responded to an alarm at a liquor store on 19th Street West shortly after 4:30 a.m. and discovered a glass front door had been damaged by a rock. Deputies said they saw a Dodge Neon quickly leave the parking lot when they arrived and flee at speeds nearing 90 mph.
According to investigators, the driver hit an embankment at the intersection of Emerson Street West and South Orchard Street, launching into the air and landing upside down in a dirt lot. Deputies pulled the man from the vehicle and placed him under arrest. The sheriff's department said several boxes fell out of the car during the crash, and some of the stolen items may have been from an earlier burglary in Tacoma.
The 41-year-old suspect was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and booked on suspicion of attempted burglary and felony eluding.
