TACOMA, WA — Three Washington State Patrol troopers delivered a healthy baby girl along SR 509 in Tacoma on Thursday night — and luckily one of the troopers on the scene used to be a doctor.

The troopers were called to the scene at SR 509 and Portland Avenue at around 7:15 p.m. The baby was delivered quickly — the three troopers on the scene delivered the baby and had to wait for firefighters to arrive to cut the umbilical cord, according to WSP Trooper Johnna Batiste.

Trooper Pedro Bibot took the lead on delivering the baby, but Trooper Rob Reyer, who was a doctor in Austria before coming to WSP, also helped.

The troopers posed for a photo with the baby's grandmother by the highway, and then went to Tacoma General to visit mother and daughter.

As of last check at around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, the girl didn't yet have a name.
