You're either at the table or you're on the menu

Workers need to be involved in community decisions. On boards, commissions, etc. Or, run for office. If not, then our voice won't matter.

The Tacoma City Council is seeking to fill one position on its 11-member Transportation Commission.

The commission advises the City Council on issues related to transportation including short-term and long-term planning, compliance with regulations, parking, and other initiatives related to bike, pedestrian, and mass transit.

The 11 members, nine of which have voting power, are recommended by the Infrastructure, Planning, and Sustainability Committee and appointed by the City Council.

According to a statement released by the city, qualified applicants must be residents of Tacoma and should have an interest or specialty in one of the following areas: professional engineering, construction or private business, bike and pedestrian or mass transit, planning and urban growth, environment and sustainability, the general community, or the ADA community. The open position is for an unexpired term in District No. 4. Transportation Commission meetings take place on the third Wednesday of every month.
