King County To Change Force Policy To Include Pointing Gun

The change stems from an August 2017 traffic stop where a King County detective pulled a gun on motorcyclist Alex Randall.

WOODINVILLE, WA - The King County Sheriff's Office will change its use-of-force policy to include pointing a gun. The change stems from an incident where a Woodinville detective pulled a gun on a motorcyclist during a 2017 traffic stop.

Alex Randall, 31, was driving along Northeast 145th Street in Shoreline on Aug. 16, 2017, when he stopped at a light near 5th Avenue Northeast. Randall has said that an unmarked car pulled up behind him with its lights on, and that's when Det. Richard Rowe approached him with a gun drawn.

Randall sued the sheriff's department in August. In addition to damages, Randall sued to change the department's policies. Randall will get $65,000 from the county, according to the settlement.
