Literacy Event At Bothell McMenamins Friday

Approximately 90 local educators, leaders, and community partners are expected to attend.

From Scholastic Inc.: Puget Sound region district and school leadership are making literacy a priority for all students this year by attending a free professional learning institute presented by Scholastic, the children’s publishing, education, and media company on Friday, February 24 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Approximately 90 local educators, leaders, and community partners are expected to attend the institute, entitled Next Steps in Literacy: Families and Schools Working Together “Achieve the Reach,” to learn key strategies focused on supporting both students and teachers in creating a lasting culture of literacy within their districts, with an emphasis on family and community engagement.

The special institute will feature keynote presentations and author “office hours” with Scholastic Education authors and experts Dr. Karen L. Mapp, Sr. Lecturer at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and Dr. Ernest Morrell, Professor of English Education and Director of the Institute for Urban and Minority Education (IUME) at Teachers College, Columbia University. Hands-on breakout sessions will be led by Scholastic content and implementation specialists.
