Smoke From Woodinville Scrapyard Fire Reaches Seattle
The fire at Schnitzer Steel broke out around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

WOODINVILLE, WA — A large fire at a Woodinville scrapyard blanketed the region in smoke Wednesday night as scrap metal and Styrofoam burned for hours.
The fire broke out around 6:30 p.m. at Schnitzer Steel along 238th Street Southeast. Crews from Woodinville and Snohomish County attacked the blaze, assisted by scrapyard workers manning backhoes.
The smoke covered SR 522, and Woodinville and Bothell residents were told to keep their windows closed until the air cleared. Around 8 p.m., the Seattle Fire Department warned residents in North Seattle to do the same as smoke wafted westward.
