WOODINVILLE, WA — The venerable local Zeeks Pizza chain held a grand opening for its newest restaurant in Woodinville on Tuesday.

The new Zeeks is located at the Woodin Creek Village apartment complex along 135th Avenue Northeast in the downtown area.

The Woodinville franchise is owned by Monica Pavelka, who holds a degree from the Academy of Culinary Education, and formerly worked as a healthcare administrator.

"My mother was a green card-holding Italian, so my food roots run deep," Pavelka said in a press release. "I recently visited her in Italy and was surprised by the sheer amount of bars and pizza places, which sort of serve as social hubs for the neighborhood's residents. The vibe at Zeeks is very similar. In fact, one of the reasons I became a franchisee is to recreate that piece of Italy in Woodinville."

Zeeks got its start in 1993 in Seattle's Queen Anne neighborhood. The chain has expanded to locations from Tacoma to Lynnwood and Bothell.
