7-Year Old Dies After Having Tooth Pulled At Dentist Appointment

"It's just so sad." A Wisconsin community is heartbroken after the death of 7-year-old Jocelyn Hampel.

JACKSON, WI — An outpouring of love is coming in for people in a Wisconsin community who are mourning the tragic loss of a child.

Jocelyn Hampel, a 7-year-old from small-town Jackson, has died after something went horribly wrong at a dentist appointment, according to a FOX-6 report. The little girl fought for her life at Children's Wisconsin in Milwaukee for a few days before her death.

"You’re not supposed to…you’re supposed to get more than 7 years, right?" Brian Gould, Jocelyn's uncle, tearfully told the news channel. "It’s just so sad. It’s just not supposed to happen that way, you know?"

Jocelyn was at the dentist to have a tooth pulled, family members told FOX-6. Gould said family members are still trying to connect the dots on what led to the 7-year-old's death.

An autopsy has been scheduled, according to FOX-6. The Washington County Medical Examiner's Office has been reached.

Family and friends who have set up a GoFundMe account for the Hampel family are seeing messages of support come in from across the country. As of Wednesday, the effort had surpassed $27,000.

"This story touched me," Tania Poventud said. "Sending prayers from Florida to your family during this devastating time. May her beautiful little soul. Rest In Peace."

Nicole Weiland, organizer of the GoFundMe, shared the heart-wrenching words of Jocelyn's mother, Ashley Hampel.

"You didn’t deserve this, mommy loves you so much," Hampel wrote. "You need to give us strength to get by minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day. I hope you know somebody was ALWAYS by your side and you were never alone.

"You were a brave, strong girl until the end. We will always say your name, remember your smiles and giggles and picture you dancing and spinning everywhere."

Gould told FOX-6 his niece may have only had seven years on Earth, but did "an amazing job" touching people.

"She just loved to give hugs and kisses," he said. "She just was the most gentle soul ever."
