Packers Name Gutekunst to succeed Ted Thompson as GM
The Green Bay Packers are reportedly set to hire a GM candidate to Ted Thompson, and it's a familiar face.

GREEN BAY, WI — After a disappointing season of football on the field, the Green Bay Packers have named their new General Manager, following former GM Ted Thompson's promotion to senior advisor within the organization.
According to Green Bay Press-Gazette's Ryan Wood, Brian Gutenkunst will be the next GM, earning the job over fellow candidates Reggie McKenzie, Eliot Wolff and Russ Ball.

Gutekunst's professional resume includes spending most of the 1998 NFL season with the Kansas City Chiefs as a scouting assistant. He joined the Packers as a college scout in 2012. He was promoted to director of player personnel in March 2016.

According to the Acme Packing Company online, head coach Mike McCarthy said he preferred Gutekunst as the next general manager. "Gutekunst’s hiring likely closes the door on McCarthy leaving before next season and creates a path for Green Bay’s headman to continue with the team if 2018 proves successful," they reported.
