MADISON, WI — Gov. Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) announced Friday that Wisconsin's third community-based COVID-19 vaccination clinic will open in Racine County on March 23.

According to a release, the clinic will be located at Racine's Regency Mall in the former Burlington Coat Factory and be open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Initially, the clinic will administer 200 vaccine doses per day, but it will be equipped to administer up to 1,000 doses per day. The number of doses will depend on how much vaccine the state receives from the federal government.

The DHS said the Racine clinic will be prioritizing citizens who are age 65 and older, educators and childcare staff on the local health department's waitlist. After those groups are scheduled, anyone currently eligible for the vaccine will be invited to make an appointment.

On Thursday, Evers and the DHS announced that people 16 years old and older with certain medical conditions will become eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine on March 29.

In order to get an appointment at the Racine facility, an eligible person must pre-register through the Wisconsin COVID-19 Vaccine Registry. Eligible individuals then will be contacted when it is time to schedule an appointment.

"As more Wisconsinites become eligible for the vaccine later this month, it’s important that we continue to bring these community-based clinics online to get as many people vaccinated as possible to reach community immunity," Gov. Evers said. "These vaccination clinics help support local vaccine access and ensure that anyone currently eligible gets their shot.”

The Racine clinic will be operated by AMI Expeditionary Healthcare through a collaboration with the Central Racine County Health Department, City of Racine Public Health and other local partners.

The DHS' two other community-based clinics are in Rock County and La Crosse County. According to the DHS, the locations of these facilities were chosen to address gaps in vaccine access and factors like population demographics, local health capacity and concentration of other vaccine providers are taken into consideration when planning for the clinics.
