Wisconsin Republicans Push To Limit Ballot Drop Boxes

Republicans introduced a series of election-related bills in the state Legislature on Wednesday that would change absentee voting.

MADISON, WI — Republican lawmakers want to limit the number of ballot drop boxes around the state, according to a report from The Associated Press.

The measure is just one of several proposed in a series of election-related bills introduced in the Wisconsin Legislature on Wednesday. The provision would call for drop boxes to be placed only at election clerk offices, the AP reported.

Another measure would mandate that only voters and not elections officials could fill out information on an absentee ballot envelope.

The bills are meant to address false criticism leveled by former President Donald Trump against the state's election process after he lost Wisconsin to President Joe Biden in 2020, the AP reported.

The GOP-sponsored bills are expected to be vetoed by Gov. Tony Evers, a Democrat.
