Wisconsin Connections Academy Celebrates Class of 2018 Graduates
Traditional graduation ceremony to take place Wednesday, June 6 at University of Wisconsin – Fox Valley campus

Appleton, Wis. (June 4, 2018) –Wisconsin Connections Academy (WCA), one of the state’s first full-time, tuition-free virtual public charter schools for all Wisconsin K-12 students, will be celebrating the graduation of its senior class during an in-person ceremony June 6 at 6:30pm at UW-Fox Valley in Menasha, Wisconsin.
The class of 2018 represents a highly accomplished group of more than 45 students, many of which will pursue undergraduate degrees at colleges across the country. Students were accepted to prestigious institutions such as UW-Madison, Fordham University, Marquette University, Alverno College, University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and Western University. Other graduating students plan on entering the workforce, attending vocational training or joining the military.
“At WCA, students are provided the resources that they need to excel post-high school, whatever their aspirations,” said Michelle Mueller, Principal of WCA. “We are proud to have a school with highly qualified teachers who are experts in their fields, and a school counselor who guide students on to post-graduation success.”

Speakers at the event will include Principal Michelle Mueller, Appleton Area School District Superintendent Judith Basemen and students Samuel Langenfeld and Maria von Ellm-McKenna. The class valedictorian is Luke Korslin of Wisconsin Rapids and the salutatorian is Madison Berray of Woodruff.

- Maria von Ellm-McKenna (Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin) – As a competitive ice skater and performer, WCA provided Maria with the flexibility needed to balance school with other responsibilities. While attending WCA, she taught skating to students of all ages and offered therapeutic skating for children with disabilities. She will be attending Western University in London, Ontario, Canada where she will pursue a Bachelor of Medical Science with biochemistry and cell biology majors.
- Samuel Langenfeld (Hancock, Wisconsin) – Langenfeld was elected president of WCA’s chapter of the National Honor Society. He plans on attending UW-Green Bay in the fall and majoring in Environmental Design, with aspirations to one day design buildings that blend nature with modern techniques. Says Samuel: “The ability to work at my own pace or work ahead when I needed to, paired with one-on-one interaction with faculty, made WCA feel more connected for me and helped me to excel in my studies and become the successful student that I am today.”
