Caledonia Still Has Lowest Unemployment Rate

Caledonia can boast again about a 4 percent unemployment rate while Mount Pleasant sits at about 9.5 percent.

There's good news and bad news in the latest unemployment numbers released this week by the Department of Workforce Development.

For Caledonia residents and officials alike, the village's 4 percent unemployment rate - unchanged from a year ago - is great news.

But, for City of Racine residents, the news leans more toward the negative with 12.3 percent unemployment, down from 12.4 in July 2013. The metro-Racine area comes in at 8.8 percent, also down just a smidge from 8.9 percent a year ago.

Unemployment in Mount Pleasant improved slightly this July over July 2012; falling from 9.8 to 9.5 percent.

DWD does not break out percentages for Sturtevant. Figures also do not take into account underemployment or workers employed part-time but who want full time work.
