Call for Domestic Disturbance Ends in Drug Arrest

Caledonia Police arrested a man Wednesday for domestic abuse, but he also ended up charged with possession for reportedly having a joint in his front pocket.

Patch is not naming the man to protect the identity of his family.

The man is charged with one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct, domestic assessments and a felony count of possession of THC, second or subsequent offense. If convicted, he could face up to three years, three months in jail and/or up to $11,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, police were called to a residence in the 4300 block of Kennedy Drive at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday for domestic trouble. Dispatch informed officers that a male could be heard screaming at a female who was crying.

When they arrived, police say the woman told them she and her husband had gotten into a fight. She told officers she was scared because she is two months pregnant, and her husband pushed her after drinking and smoking marijuana. 

The woman's children also told police the couple argues all the time and even played a recording of a recent fight where the man could be heard yelling at the woman, the complaint reads. When officers spoke to the man, he admitted to drinking "a couple of beers," and police say his eyes appeared red and glassy.

Officers took the man into custody and given a preliminary breath test at the Racine County Jail, which registered a blood alcohol level of 0.25. When police searched him, they reportedly found a joint in his front pants pocket.

Court records do not indicate whether or not the man was given a bond during his initial appearance Thursday or if he remains in custody.
