Case Swim Team Takes Second at Southeast Conference Tournament

Horlick team struggled, but both teams put forth fantastic effort.

For Racine Case and Racine Horlick, the two schools could not be at more opposite ends of the spectrum as far as boys swimming goes.

And that was more than evident at the Southeast Conference tournament Saturday.

Case took second in the regular season, falling just short of undefeated Muskego in the final dual meet of the year while Horlick finished at the bottom of the totem pole.

Both put forth an excellent amount of energy Saturday at Racine Park’s pool, but the overall results didn’t change for either school as Case finished over 100 points behind Muskego while Horlick struggled and finished last with 122 points.

“We’ve got a lot of newbies this year so we’re a real young team but we swam well,” said Racine Horlick coach Johnathan Patzwald. “We had a lot of lap-time bests and that’s what matters the most.

“That’s the good thing about swimming is you’re racing against the clock. Yeah, we came in last but we had a guy for example who finally broke a minute in the 100 free style so you couldn’t have told him he got sixth place or anything.”

Junior Graham Kilmer also had a good day in the pool, shaving off nearly a full second off of his personal best for the Rebels.

Although the day didn’t result in a championship for Racine Case either, they still had plenty to be proud of.

“I thought it was a good meet,” said Racine Case coach Frank Michalowski. “Other teams like Oak Creek and Racine (Park) improved from last year and Muskego, they’re really tough.

“We had a really nice day though. We had a diver set a new conference record. All in all it’s kind of a transition meet for our team because we’re going into sectionals and tapering and starting to rest. But I was pleased with our result as far as overall in the conference.”

For the Eagles, senior Richard Bradley was the individual who set the conference record by posting an impressive score of 460.85 in diving.

Plenty of other individuals had a nice day for Case including the 400 yard free relay team of sophomores John Freidheim and Jarred Glasser, and juniors Spencer Kruse and Cameron Small.

Now comes the tricky part, says coach Michalowski, as he has to trim his roster down a little bit before heading to sectionals, which will be at Greenfield high school for the Eagles.

1. Muskego-483
2. Racine Case-361
3. Oak Creek-355
4. Kenosha Tremper-313
5. Kenosha Bradford-295
6. Racine Park-213
