'Meet the Root' Spring Paddling Trip

The Root-Pike Watershed Initiative Network is holding a "Paddle the Root" Day on May 21. 

Join paddlers for lunch at the Racine Yacht Club. Celebrate the official opening of the new canoe/kayak launch at Island Park. Learn about the new Root River Restoration Planning effort that is underway.

Also, accompany Mayor John Dickert and Dr. Julie Kinzelman for a walking tour of the North Beach restoration that earned the City of Racine the "Blue Wave Award."

Participants should park at the Kids Cove Playground at North Beach and take a shuttle to Island Park. People with their own canoes and kayaks should drop them off at the Island Park canoe/kayak launch prior to meeting at North Beach. Watercraft will be watched after you drop it off.  

The cost for the event is $6 for registration and the shuttle to the launch point. Canoes and kayaks are available for rent for $5. Lunch is also available for $5.
