RACINE - A school to help children discover their peaceful nature will hold its fall session beginning Sept. 22.
“Peace School” is an after-school program for 4- to 8-year-olds run by the Original Root Zen Center in Racine. Led by professional educators and Zen Buddhist clergy, the school is designed to help children develop peaceful ways of living in this world. Its curriculum is rooted in four key areas: empathy, compassion, altruism, and loving-kindness. Peace skills are taught through art, music, words, nature, playing, emotions and feelings.
Classes will be held on Thursdays from 4-5:30 p.m. Class dates are: Sept. 22, 29, Oct. 6, 13 and 20. The entire six week session costs $60 per student, and $20 for each additional sibling. The fee includes all class materials, a healthy snack, and a “Not Just About Me” Journal each student.
“Peace School” is hosted at ORZC, which is located in the East Building at The DeKoven Center, 600 21st St., in Racine. An open house for Peace School will be held Thursday, Sept. 15 from 4-5:30 p.m. for parents interested in the program. Teachers will be on hand to answer questions and give tours of the school space.
