How High Will Park High School Senior Go?

Before making the leap to college this fall, Park's Kaj Days breaking records in the high jump.

RACINE — Racine Park High School senior Kaj Days is accomplishing something special in the world of high school track and field.

First he set the Park High School high jump record last month at an indoor meet with a jump of 6'8".

A couple weeks later, he set a new personal best with a leap of 6'10". That's like jumping over the height of the front door of your house, or NBA superstar Magic Johnson, or his younger brother Nobal, who stands 6'9".

The Wisconsin WIAA high jump record was set by Jason Smith of Milwaukee Juneau in 1992 with a height of 7 feet.

The world record is a mind-boggling 8 foot and 1/2 inch leap by Javier Sotomayor of Cuba in 1993. To put Days' feat in perspective, his leap of 6'10" would have been a world record in 1936, the same year Jesse Owens dominated the Olympic games.

The Park High School senior has committed to attending the University of Illinois-Springfield and has earned scholarship offerings for his academic work.
