Prison File Clerk Arrested; Performed Sex Act on Inmate

RACINE COUNTY, WI — A prison file clerk has been arrested after admitting that she developed an intimate relationship with an inmate, smuggled items into the facility, engaged in intimate touching and performed a sex act while on the job.

Loralie A. Schultz, 52, Racine, has been charged with 2nd Degree Sexual Assault by Correctional Staff and Delivering Illegal Articles to an Inmate. If convicted, she faces more than 25 years behind bars on the sexual assault charge. She is currently being held in the Racine County Jail on a $5,000 signature bond.

On Jan. 30, Racine County Sheriff's investigators spoke with Loralie Schultz regarding several incident that occurred at the Racine Correctional Institution, in Sturtevant, where she worked as a file clerk.

During the course of the incident, Schultz told authorities that she developed a friendship with an inmate currently housed there while she was on the job as a file clerk.

According to her criminal complaint, Schultz admitted that over the course of this friendship and over the last six months, she brought a cell phone, cans of chewing tobacco, and a sewing kit into the Racine Correctional Institution and had given it to the inmate at his request.

Schultz admitted to authorities that she knew she should not have brought the items into the secure detention facility and told the inmate that "she should not be doing this" for him.

According to her criminal complaint, she smuggled the items into the Racine Correctional Institution by placing them in her sock.

It was during the course of that interview that Schultz also admitted to having sexual interactions with the inmate, including intimate touching and the performance of a sex act while at the facility.
