Caledonia Cops to Wait Tables for Special Olympics

If you order food from a nearby steakhouse next month, you may not only receive your meal free of charge, but get a visit from an area police officer.

The Caledonia Police Department and Racine County Sheriff's Office are among those teaming up with Special Olympics Wisconsin on April 7 for Guardians of the Flame, a fundraising effort that includes a free Texas Roadhouse lunch. Men and women in uniform will be serving diners in the restaurant and even delivering carryout orders. Any collected tips will go straight to Special Olympics Wisconsin.

Famished participants can stop in the restaurant, 6228 Durand Ave. in Waxdale, or order from offsite between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. that day. The free meal includes a pulled pork sandwich, applesauce, fries and a drink.

Special Olympics Wisconsin is a statewide nonprofit organization that provides year-round sports training and competition to people with disabilities. Worldwide, Special Olympics is the largest sports organization for individuals with intellectual disabilities with 4.4 million athletes in 170 countries, according to its website.
