Racine Zoo Holiday Lights Start Saturday Night
Saturday's lighting ceremony will be held in conjunction with the Zoo's Orangutan Awareness Day

RACINE -- The weather outside might not tell the story just yet, but the illumination of the Racine Zoo's annual lights show is a sign that the Holidays - and winter - are not far away.
This year, the Racine Zoo is switching on its annual holiday lights show during a special ceremony this Saturday at 5 p.m.
According to a report from the Racine County Eye, Orangutan Awareness Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Orangutan Awareness Day will teach attendees about the species. Children will also be able to make crafts and participate in activities.

A 22-foot by 28-foot waterfall is brought to life by 3,000 feet of rope lights that have 33,000 individual LED bulbs. The display also includes a steamboat, animals, trees, toys and of course Santa and his sleigh.
The Racine County Eye is reporting that hot cocoa and cookies will be served in the Vanishing Kingdom building during the lighting ceremony. This year the Kiwanis are selling ornaments, which will help offset the cost of the Kiwanis Holiday of Lights display.
