Wife Shoots Husband During Argument

A Union Grove man was transported by Flight for Life after suffering a gunshot wound at the hands of his wife Tuesday.

UNION GROVE, WI — A man in Union Grove was transported by flight for life to Froedtert Hospital after he was shot by his wife just after midnight early Tuesday.

According to information released by the Racine County Sheriff's office, deputies responded to an apartment at 1400 West St. in Union Grove for a rescue call at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday.

According to witnesses inside the home, Konrad Madeja and his wife Phyliss Madeja were involved in a verbal and physical argument when Phyliss Madeja apparently shot Konrad Madeja.

Deputies arrived and found Konrad Madeja inside the home unresponsive and that he had sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Konrad Madeja was transported to Froedert Hospital in Milwaukee where he expected to recover from his injury.

Phyllis Madeja was treated for minor injuries and released from Wheaton Franciscan Hospital in Racine. Phyliss Madeja was arrested and taken to the Racine County Jail.

She is being held in jail on a $50,000 cash bond. The Sheriff's Office is recommending charges of Second Degree Intentional Homicide. Her case will be forwarded to the Racine County District Attorney for official charging.

The incident continues to be investigated by the Racine County Sheriff’s Office.
