WEEKEND PLANNER: 5 Things to do in the Racine Area on Saturday

Need help getting moving and grooving this weekend? Here are 5 family-friendly activities to get you rolling!

  1. EVP Beach Sports Festival

Real Racine presents the EVP Beach Sports Festival. The volleyball courts will be set up on North Beach, 100 Kewaunee St., adjacent to the Beachside Oasis. All events are FREE to spectators. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Two-person men's and women's volleyball teams will compete in pro and amateur divisons.

Saturday events schedule: 8 a.m. pro matches begin; 9 a.m. men's and women's amateur tournament begins; 11 a.m., center court contest; 2 p.m., juniors playoffs begin; 4 to 6 p.m, amateur finals.

Sunday events schedule: 9:30 a.m., Co-ed 2s and juniors sign in; 10 a.m., women's pro finals; 11 a.m., men's pro finals.

2. German Fest

Celebrate and experience everything German in Downtown Racine. German Fest will be held at the Harbor Lite Yacht Club, 559 State St. with polka music, hearty foods, dancing, wines and beer.

German car show outside on Ontario Street. Gerrman wine tasting ($5 per person; must be 21 or older) with wine expert Tony Bongionia of Uncorkt at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Raffle and contests all day.

Entertainment lineup: Peggy Mueller (Bavarian and Austrian folk music), 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Tom Brusky Polka Band, 12 to 3 p.m.; Final Approach, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.; Fender Bender, 7 to 10 p.m.

3. Kraut Music Fest


Kraut Music Fest continues at Caledonia-Mount Pleasant Memorial Park, 9614 Northwestern Ave. (Hwy. K), Franksville.

Saturday lineup:
Family stage - Celebrity kraut-eating contest (sauerkraut donated by Fremont Canning Co.) 2 p.m.; illusionist Bob Bohm, 1, 4 and 5 p.m.; hynotist Glen Gerard, 6 and 7 p.m.

Main stage -The Spark, 5 p.m.; Well Known Strangers, 6:30 p.m.; Black Belt Theater, 8 p.m.; Candlebox, 9:30 p.m.

4. Racine Raiders vs. Milwaukee Co. Chargers


Racine Raiders host the Milwaukee County Chargers in Mid-States Football League action. Gates open 5:30 p.m. Kickoff at 7 p.m.

Admission is $8 adults ($6 advance); $6 seniors ($5 advance); $4 students. Family pack - admits two adults and up to four students, $20 ($17 advance). Veterans and active duty milltary (with ID) admitted free.

5. Celebrate Strawberries and Farm Fun at Apple Holler


Guests can enjoy fresh-picked strawberries, chocolate covers strawberries, fresh pies, ice cream sundaes and more. Free tastings inside the store. Strawberry special menu in the restaurant. Guest will also enjoy some Summer fun on the Farm for a small fee.
