Yearning for Spring? Milaeger's Has Riot of Color

From home decor to clothing and dreams of entertaining on a patio, the garden and lifestyle shop is ready for springtime shoppers.

Despite the snow on the ground, inside Milaeger's there's no mistaking that spring is on the way. The Christmas decor is long gone, replaced with brightly-colored items that would look in place inside or out.

Kara Kading—a member of the Milaeger family—pointed out a few of her favorites:

Indoor/outdoor rugs Featuring garden scenes and bright colors, these rugs work well on a front porch or in a kitchen, she said. Many have a frame that lets you change out the inside rug portion to suit the season or when you need a change.

"The imagery is incredible," she said. Many of the rugs feature work from well-known artists, and have coordinating garden flags and mailbox designs.

Clothing "People are looking for bright, cheery colors," she said. Milaeger's has a wide selection of clothes for people ready to slough off winter's sweaters in favor of springtime attire—even when the warmth seems far away.

"We know winters are long here," she said. "People feel better brightening up the wardrobe."

For those lucky enough to escape the chill for spring break there are dresses and other warm-climate options, too. A convertible dress with straps that can be worn at least eight ways is very popular, Kading said.

Outdoor Living Expo Opening Thursday night, this event showcases the best of patio and yard options in the comfort of a Milaeger's greenhouse. Showstopping patio designs (featuring bars and huge fireplaces) share the space with archways, dining sets and outdoor lounge furniture.

"People are treating a patio as a whole new room, an addition to their home," Kading said. "With fireplaces or fire pits and even a bar they extend the use of the patio." Bright colors are taking center stage here, too, she said, with oranges and teals among the most popular for everything from outdoor upholstery to pots.

The event runs through April 6.
