Citizen Tackles Suspect during Police Foot Chase

Fox Point police arrested a man May 1 for retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia after he allegedly stole from Best Buy, and police discovered several items used to consume heroin.

Fox Point police fielded some unlikely help May 1 as they pursued a man on foot, suspected of stealing from Best Buy.

According to a police report, Fox Point police responded to a report of a retail theft in progress at about 12:58 p.m. at the electronics chain in the River Point Shopping Center, 8755 N. Port Washington Rd. The suspect left on foot before police arrived, however police spotted him walking westbound on West Brown Deer Road after receiving a suspect description.

When an officer asked the man to stop, he fled west toward Indian Hill School. While in chase, the officer witnessed the suspect pull a box from a camouflage bag on his back, and drop it on the ground. Police later recovered the box that contained a $200 Beatspill portable radio speaker, which they returned to Best Buy.

As police continued to chase the man, reaching the school parking lot, a citizen saw the pursuit and tackled the suspect. Police quickly took the suspect into custody. 

During a search, police found a four-inch knife in the man's pocket, and discovered several items used to consume heroin in his camo bag, including rubber bands, a lighter, metal spoon, tin cups, four hypodermic needles, alcohol swabs. Additionally, police recovered a plastic bag from the man, with powder residue that later tested positive for heroin.
