Mayor Genrich Statement on the passing for Former Green Bay Mayor Monfils

"It’s with a heavy heart that I recognize the passing of Mike Monfils, former mayor of Green Bay from 1975-1979. I never had the chance to meet Mayor Monfils, but those who knew him speak highly of the mayor and person he was. Mayor Monfils was a veteran, husband, father, and grandfather. He professionalized city operations in many respects, creating the first office of personnel and developing the city’s first comprehensive plan in more than fifty years. Mayor Monfils also championed the creation of the state’s Tax Increment Finance law, which continues to be the most effective economic development tool for local governments. On behalf of the citizens of Green Bay, I express my sincere condolences to his family and friends and wish Mayor Monfils everlasting peace."
