GREENDALE, WI — The Village Board of Trustees authorized the purchase of the former Boston Store property located at Southridge Mall Tuesday night.

The move allows village staff, separate from the Board of Trustees, to go forward with an eminent domain purchase of the property. Negotiations and details of the purchase were discussed in a closed-door meeting beforehand.

The Village will now have the property under contract for 30 days to decide what to do, such as finding a new buyer. Otherwise, the village will forfeit $100, according to the meeting.

The site was designated in April as blighted by the Greendale Community Development Authority. The Village originally wanted to purchase the property to find a new developer, according to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report.
