1. Chapman School

The former school and home to the Greenfield School District administrative offices has a location that’s about as visible as it gets; thousands of cars pass by the lot nestled right next to Interstate 894.

The Salvation Army recently made an offer to purchase the building and land from the district, which moved out in 2010.

2. Pick ‘n Save

The new Pick ‘n Save has been open for more than a year and a half, leaving the former location at 4200 S. 76th St. vacant since August 2011.

And that’s not the only vacancy in Spring Mall, located right on the busy 76th Street corridor. Fashion Bug, right across the parking lot from the old grocery store, closed its stores nationwide in late January.

3. Walmart

The Ridge Community Church now owns the former retail building, .

The remainder of the building has available retail space that could continue to spruce up the busy corner of Highway 100 and Layton Avenue.

4. Goody’s

Speaking of the corner of Highway 100 and Layton, Goody’s owner Spiro Asimakopoulos closed the former Omega Restaurant last June to remodel, but not long after, lease signs popped up and Goody’s never reopened.

And while this is the smallest vacancy on the list, it could be a prime piece of real estate given the new Walmart and The Ridge Church are right across the street.

5. Cardinal Fitness/Xperience

Xperience Fitness closed its Greenfield doors about half a year after it took over Cardinal Fitness at the corner of 84th Street and Layton Avenue.

Closed since late January, the former fitness center building gets plenty of traffic from those hoping off 894 or making their way east/west on Layton Avenue.
