Baldwin Halloween Death Ruled A Suicide: Police

Police say the man's 14-week-old daughter also died the same night and was found unresponsive at the scene.

ST. CROIX COUNTY, WI — The death of a 39-year-old man on Halloween has been ruled a suicide. Authorities, though, are waiting for further tests before ruling a cause of death for the man’s 14-week-old daughter on the same night.

The Baldwin Police Department and emergency responders on Tuesday went to a home in the 200-block of Cedar Street in Baldwin on a report of man who had been shot. Officers found the man, identified as Jeffrey Long, 39. According to police, Long was found inside with a gunshot wound to his head. A gun was found nearby, police said.

Officers also found Long’s daughter, Aubree Long, who was unresponsive. Emergency crews were unable to revive the girl and she died at the scene, according to reports. There was no evidence of a gunshot wound to the child.

The St. Croix Medical Examiner ruled Jeffrey Long’s a death a suicide. The death of his 14-week-old daughter, Aubree, remains undetermined, pending toxicology and microscopic testing.
