ST. CROIX COUNTY, WI — Authorities say the quick actions of a witness who saw a car strike a bicyclist, led to the arrest of the driver who tried fleeing the scene.

On Thursday, Nov. 30, just after 1 p.m., the St. Croix County Sheriff's office responded to a crash between a car and bicycle in the 1000 block of Highway 12 in the Town of Warren.

A witness told deputies that a 2013 Ford Focus driven by Brian Warwick, 43, of Roberts, Wis., was driving west on Highway 12 when he struck a bicycle ridden by 52-year-old Edward Bridges, of Peoria, Ill., according to sheriff's officials.

Sheriff's officials said that when Bridges was struck, he flew over the windshield and landed in the north ditch. Warwick did not stop when he struck Bridges and was followed by a witness until sheriff's deputies were able to stop Warwick's car on Highway 12 near Alexander Road in the Town of Hudson.

Warwick was arrested on suspicion of hit and run-causing injury and intoxicated use of a motor vehicle. He was transported to the St. Croix County Jail and is awaiting formal charges.
