St. Croix Crossing bridge deck construction at Pier 9 near Minnesota land is complete. Crews placed the final pre-cast concrete segment in the bridge deck construction sequence on June 10.

Bridge deck construction continues at Piers 8, 10, 11 and 12 on the St. Croix River and at Span 14, which stretches from Pier 13 to the east abutment on the Wisconsin bluff.

Other St. Croix Crossing bridge construction highlights are:

  • Crews will have placed up to the 14th eastbound and westbound segments in the bridge deck construction sequence at Pier 12, closest to Wisconsin land, by the end of the week of June 13
  • Crews placed 10 segments in the bridge deck construction sequence at Span 14 the week of June 6. Span 14 bridge deck construction is ongoing through the fall.

MORE ON THE PROJECT:

It is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2017 and will connect St. Croix County, Wisconsin with Washington County, Minnesota about one mile south of the existing Lift Bridge in Stillwater, Minnesota.

Construction on the river crossing began in May 2013 with a ceremonial groundbreaking. Load tests to determine the stability of the bedrock under the river were conducted in mid-2012 after the U.S. House and Senate approved an exception to the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act earlier in the year.

By late December 2013 all five sets of piers were substantially completed and reached above the waterline. Since then, construction of the pier towers occurred, and multi-ton bridge segments are being lifted into place to form the deck and future driving surface of the bridge.
