Troopers Find 16 Pounds Meth, 4-Year-Old Child In Car: Report

Authorities say they've arrested two Minnesota women in Wisconsin on Super Bowl Sunday trying to transport more than 16 pounds of meth.

EAU CLAIRE COUNTY, WI -- Authorities in Wisconsin say they've arrested two Minnesota women in Wisconsin after a traffic stop revealed they were traveling with a four-year-old child, and also more than 16 pounds of meth.

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, just after 10 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3, a trooper on patrol stopped a vehicle on west-bound I-94 in Eau Claire County for an apparent traffic violation.

Troopers reported seeing evidence of "criminal activity" when they walked up to the car, which had pulled over to the side of the interstate. Troopers deployed a drug-detecting dog, who alerted to the possible presence of illegal drugs inside the vehicle.

When troopers searched the vehicle, they reported finding a large duffel bag containing approximately
7.5 kilograms of methamphetamine, according to official reports. 7.5 kilograms is roughly 16.5 pounds.

The Wisconsin State Patrol reported arresting Salina K. Goodwin, 35, from Ogema, Minnesota and Crystal G. Oquist, 39, Minneapolis on suspicion of intending to deliver methamphetamine. Troopers also found a four-year-old child in the vehicle, according to reports. They have yet to be formally charged in Eau Claire County Circuit Court, according to official records as of 11 a.m. Monday.

Authorities said the child was released to the custody of Human Services of Eau Claire County. Goodwin and Oquist were booked into Eau Claire County jail.
