Woman, 44, Dies In Crash With Truck Carrying Sand: Report

Sheriff's officials say that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

ST. CROIX COUNTY, WI — Authorities in St.Croix County day that a 44-year-old woman has died after the vehicle that she was driving collided with a truck that was transporting 7,500 pounds of sand on Friday.

On Friday July 27, 2018 at just after 4 p.m., the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash at Highway 46 Main St. S, north of Front St. in the Village of Deer Park. Sheriff’s preliminary investigation and witness statements indicated that a 2008 Kia Sportage Sport Utility vehicle, driven by Stacey A. Robb, 44 from Amery, was driving south on Main St. S.

Officials said a 2005 Peterbilt semi-tractor trailer unit, driven by Chance M. Zasada, 39, from Turtle Lake was driving north on Main St. S. Witnesses reported that the Kia crossed the centerline and struck the semi unit head-on. Sheriff’s officials said Zasada had minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital.

Robb was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County Medical Examiner’s Office. Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash. There is no indication that Zasada was under the influence of alcohol, sheriff’s officials said.

Zasada was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Robb was not wearing a seatbelt, according to sheriff’s officials.

Assisting with this incident were the Wisconsin State Patrol, Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin DNR, Deer Park Fire, New Richmond EMS, St. Croix County Highway Dept. and Medical Examiner’s Office.

The road was closed for approximately five hours while deputies investigated the scene of the crash. The semi is owned by MDM Excavating from Cumberland.

The semi was loaded with approximately 7,500 pounds of sand. The crash remains under investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office and the Medical Examiner’s Office. This is the sixth traffic fatality in St. Croix County in 2018.
