MADISON, WI — The U.S. Women's Hockey Team begins their quest for Olympic gold at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
After winning the gold medal in 1998, U.S. Women's Hockey Team has lost the gold medal game to Canada in 2002, 2010 and 2014. The U.S. women earned a bronze medal in 2006.
Madison's Amanda Kessel was on that U.S. Women's team 2014 in Sochi. She suffered a serious concussion in 2014, and steadily worked her way back to the ice later in 2015 as a member of the University of Minnesota's Women's Hockey Team.

Described as a creative forward who's good with the puck, Kessel won the NCAA Division I title and also the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award at Minnesota in 2012-13. She's a three-time Team USA World Championship player, who won two gold medals and one silver.
“She has a championship mentality,” added team captain Meghan Duggan in a Team USA report. “She’s committed to winning and being the best she can be, so to have her back on our team, it’s unbelievable.
