Wisconsin Shop Named Among Best Sandwich Shops In America

Some Wisconsinites know this place well — and it may be one of the area's best-kept secrets.

MADISON, WI — Detroiters know all about Mudgie's Deli in Corktown, but now it's getting some national love.

Thrillist published their list of the 33 best sandwich shops in America this week and The Underground Butcher is the only Wisconsin spot that made the list.

Underground Butcher is the best of the best, a place where they'll wrap raw cuts to go, but where you're advised to take a sandwich for the road. here's Texas-style brisket paired with decidedly un-Texas (but tasty!) fixin's of kimchi and whole-grain mustard.
There's their house salami on a baguette with creamy Pleasant Ridge Reserve cheese, Dijon and aioli.

The reviewers on Tripadvisor had high marks for the little joint on the 800 block of Williamson Street:

These are the best sandwiches in town, bar none. (The only possible exception is the vegetarian Reuben at Stalzy's.) The bread, the meat, the condiments -- yum! But what I like the best is the creativity of the sandwich creators. Every time I go there I have a different sandwich because they always have such an interesting variety.
